Sri Lanka officially declares bankruptcy

Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister has officially declared that the country of 21 million people is now “bankrupt”.

According to him, the financial crisis facing the country has deepened.

Energy minister says fuel supplies have run out and it is now in talks with the IMF about a bailout.

One expert blamed government incompetence for the financial crisis ravaging Sri Lanka.

Civil servants in the country have been instructed to stay home because the country has “no fuel left”.

Schools in the country have also been closed down. Inflation in the country is also nearing 60%.

Unicef said Sri Lanka had the second-highest child malnutrition rate in South Asia.

This statement was even before their current crisis.

Britain’s Foreign Office has warned against all travel to the country due to the economic crisis, except ‘essential’ ones only.
