An Adentan Circuit Court convicted a 41-year-old school bus driver to 12 months in prison for fondling the breast of a 10-year-old girl on board a bus in Adentan, Accra.
Theophilus Laryea, the bus driver, charged with indecent assault, pleaded guilty with “explanation”. Laryea’s explanations were accepted by the court, which was presided over by Sedinam Awo Balokah.
The Court said it took into account various mitigating considerations in sentencing Laryea, including his early acknowledgment of guilt, the fact that he had no prior convictions, and his contrition.
The complainant is a network administrator and the victim’s aunty, according to prosecuting police Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo.
According to Chief Inspector Lanyo, the victim left her class to catch the bus about 2:55 p.m. in July of this year. The accused, who was now a convict, approached her and fondled the victim’s breast.
According to the prosecution, the victim, who was dissatisfied with Laryea’s behavior, told the complaint about her ordeal, who then informed the school officials.
