No new register for 2024 election – EC

The chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Madam Jean Mensa, has announced that they would not compile a new register for the elections.

Rather, the commission said it would begin an all-year-round limited registration exercise for only people who would turn 18 years.

The EC’s Chairperson, Jean Mensa, said yesterday that the continuous registration campaign the commission is implementing should not be interpreted as the creation of a completely new voter list.

“I want to state emphatically that the EC will not create a new register. We have previously registered over 17 million voters and have all their details and features. Besides, we have not made any provision for a new register in our 2023 budget,” she stressed.

She pleaded with the populace to reject claims made by some people and organizations that the new Constitutional Instrument (C.I) the committee sent to Parliament would result in the establishment of a new register.

The EC placed before Parliament a C.I. to guide its processes ahead of the 2024 elections.
