NDC Threatens to oppose Electoral Commission over Ghana Card move

The opposition NDC party has stated unequivocally that they would obstruct the Electoral Commission in its new Ghana card move.

It would be recalled that the Electoral Commission has announced the Ghana Card as the sole form of identification for the upcoming 2024 elections.

According to NDC, they do not subscribe to this decision.

The party believes that such a move would “disenfranchise” many eligible voters.

In a statement signed by the national chairman of the party, Mr. Samuel Ofosu, the party reiterated their stance.

A section of the statement reads “The party wishes to remind the Electoral Commission that….every Ghanaian of eighteen years and above is entitled to register as a voter.
This right to register is an inalienable right that should not be denied citizens”.

They continued that the party will “fully apprise” the public on the implications of this decision taken by the E.C.

The NDC also said it will not sit idle and watch the ruling NPP “undermine” elections with the Electoral Commission.
