An ex-convict has been sentenced to prison for butchering his older brother over their mother’s estate.
An Accra Circuit Court sentenced a 34-year-old man to five years in prison for slashing his elder brother’s thigh and shoulder with a cutlass over his mother’s estate in Teshie.
Anthony Kwabena Yeboah Twumasi was also sentenced to pay a Ghc5,000 restitution to his brother, Simon Nikoi Kotei, the case’s plaintiff.
Twumasi, a convicted felon, has pleaded not guilty to inflicting injury.
However, at the conclusion of the trial, Christina Cann’s Court found Twumasi guilty and convicted him accordingly.
The trial judge stated that Twumasi’s sentence was intended to serve as a deterrent to others who share his views.
Twumasi and Kotei lived at different sites in Teshie, near Accra, according to prosecuting Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire.
According to the prosecution, there was a misunderstanding between Twumasi and Kotei about renting a room at their mother’s house.
The situation had remained, according to the prosecution, and on December 1, 2021, late in the afternoon, the complainant went to the stated mother’s house with a mason to renovate a vacant room.
Twumasi returned from town agitated, demanding the key to the room that was being refurbished, according to the report.
Twumasi allegedly inflicted cutlass cuts on the complainant’s thigh and shoulder throughout the process, according to the prosecution.
According to the prosecution, the complainant was brought to the LEKMA Hospital, where he was admitted after he bled severely.
According to the prosecution, a police report was filed and the victim was given a police medical form. Twumasi was taken into custody later.
