In his defamation action against ex-wife Amber Heard, Johnny Depp was awarded $15 million.
The jury’s decision, which held both parties responsible, was made and revealed in a Virginia court on Wednesday after three days of deliberation following six weeks of arduous, emotional, and often contradicting testimony.
Depp received $10 million in compensation damages and $5 million in punitive damages, while Heard received $2 million in compensatory damages and no punitive damages from the jury. Depp was seeking $50 million in damages, while Heard was seeking $100 million in retaliation.
Depp watched the decision on TV from the United Kingdom, where he had traveled after the testimony ended on Friday to play with legendary guitarist Jeff Beck in Sheffield and two shows at the Royal Albert Hall in London.
Throughout the judge’s reading of the verdict, Heard remained emotionless, solemnly staring down.
