Haiti President Jovenel Moise Assassinated At Home

According to interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph, Haiti’s President Jovenel Mose was assassinated in an attack on his private residence.

At 01:00 local time, unidentified armed men invaded the president’s mansion in Port-au-Prince, according to Mr. Claude Joseph. The perpetrators were not identified in the statement, however it was stated that they spoke Spanish. According to the statement, the first lady was also shot in the attack.

Jovenel Mose, 53, has been in charge since his predecessor, Michel Martelly, stepped down in February 2017. Mr. Mose’s tenure as president was marked by accusations of corruption and waves of frequently violent anti-government rallies.
