FIFA approves 26-man squads for the 2022 World Cup

FIFA has approved bigger 26-man squads for the World Cup in Qatar.

FIFA decided to also extend football’s relaxation of rules that helped coaches and players during the pandemic.

There were also 28-player squads that were approved for the Copa America tournament in South Africa last year.

The extra members help the coaches of the 32 teams to cope with possible outbreaks of virus cases.

The squad size change will send a total of 96 extra players to the World Cup.

World Cup teams can also now use five substitutes in the regulation 90 minutes instead of 3.
