After reporting himself to the police for killing his wife, Madam Abena Asabea, a 60-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in the Agona Duakwa Police cells in the early hours of last Thursday, March 17, 2022.
According to Mr. Joe Buabeng, a family spokesperson, the dead reported the incident to the police after his elderly son Kwame Siripi complained that his father assaulted his mother for no apparent reason.
He claimed that the police told them that the dead allegedly hanged himself with a rope in a clothing he was wearing, and that three cellmates in the same jail as him alerted the officers on duty.
Fii Kwao passed out and was brought to the Salvation Army clinic in Duakwa, where he was pronounced dead.
The spokesman requested that the Inspector General of Police conduct a complete inquiry into their relative’s abrupt death in order to uncover the mystery surrounding his death.
He claimed that the police in Duakwa were inventing new explanations for the events that led to the usage of rope in the police cells, which the family found weird and mysterious.
According to him, the police made a suggestion to the family.
All attempts by the GNA to get the version of Agona Nyakrom District Police Commander of which Duakwa station falls under his jurisdiction proved futile.
The mobile phone of the Commander is switched off for many hours at the time the story was being filed.
